Participate In ONC's Next Forum March 5, 2012
ONC is committed to kicking off its ambitious agenda with a one-day meeting March 5, 2012, that will bring together the most respected leaders on these issues from government, business, academia, labor, public interest groups and others to talk about how to fix the region’s aging infrastructure. For too long, issues have been addressed independently by the three regional entities. As well, the forum will offer insight into the governance and financing issues that must be addressed as they relate to Infrastructure Banks.
It is only through regional cooperation that these worsening problems can be solved. Our roads and public transportation systems should connect the region seamlessly – and only a regional cooperative approach will make this vision into a reality.
The Forum is a starting point for a multi-faceted, multi-year approach to addressing and tackling these critical issues. Ideally, it will act as a springboard to create increased visibility for these crucial issues. Such heightened attention in turn will encourage elected officials, corporate interests, civic groups and the media to see the need for and value-added proposition offered by the ONC message and agenda. We face regional transportation infrastructure challenges that can only be fixed through regional cooperation.
The Forum should create a sustainable, long-term campaign to address issues such that the often disparate interests of the bodies comprising the coalition will want to increase their participation, activism, support, sponsorship and leadership through working with ONC. The goals are ambitious, but achievable with the participation of forward-looking groups and tenacious citizens.
Previous ONC events have included luncheon speakers or panelists including former DC Mayor Tony Williams, Reps. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Tom Davis (R-VA), Alice Rivlin, DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, Sen. Benhamin Cardin (D-MD), six DC City Council members, and others.

Smart Land-Use Planning: Townhouses emphasizing vertical living space offer more efficient land use while maintaining amenities desired by homeowners -- only with a smaller footprint, which allows more residents to live closer to urban cores and cut congestion, commuting time and energy waste.
